Some women will experience changes to their breast’s position or shape over time. This can occur due to weight loss, childbirth or aging. At Artisan Plastic Surgery located in Joliet, IL we help women re-position the shape of their breasts, giving them a more youthful appearance with a breast lift procedure.
What can I expect during a breast lift consultation?
It is important for all of our patients to be informed about the procedure they are undergoing. During the initial consultation, Dr. Schneider will discuss each patient’s goals for their body. Dr. Schneider will perform an examination and discuss your surgical options to ensure the procedure is right for you. Each individual is encouraged to bring in photographs to Dr. Schneider so she can better understand your personal goals.
How is a breast lift performed?
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is performed to re-position the patient’s nipple and to get rid of any excess skin. During this time, the areola can also be reduced in size if that is desired. There are many different ways a breast lift can be performed. The surgeon will perform the procedure that best fits the patient’s needs, anatomy and personal preferences. Since this type of procedure involves removing excess skin, there will be some scarring. These scars will be pink to begin with and usually fade in about a year. The patient will be placed under general anesthesia and the surgery usually takes anywhere from 1-3 hours.
What is the recovery time for a breast lift?
Patients will generally be able to go home the same day of the surgery, but in rare cases, you may be advised to go home the next day. The recovery time is usually pretty quick and many women can resume non-strenuous activities at work or home within 1-3 weeks. Full recovery in as little as 4-6 weeks is typical.
What are the risks involved in a breast lift?
There are some risks associated with a breast lift just as there are with any other type of surgical procedure. Dr. Schneider will go over all of these risks with you beforehand after you book a consultation.
